Insurance FAQ

Important Information

It is important to know how much insurance coverage you have. Your insurance provider can give you this information. When seeking counselling, important questions to ask are the following:

  1. What type of clinician (e.g. psychologists, social workers, etc.) am I covered for?

  2. Is there a maximum coverage amount (per year/per lifetime)? If so, what is the maximum amount?

  3. How much does my insurance cover? Does it cover a dollar amount (e.g. $75.00) per session, or a percentage (e.g. 80%) per session?

  4. When does my insurance coverage renew? Does it “roll over”?

  5. If I use up all of my coverage but require more therapy, what happens? Do I have a health spending account?

  6. Does my insurance pay no-show or late cancellation fees?

  7. Does my insurance cover the fee for letters provided by a psychologist?

Direct Billing

Splendour Psychological may or may not be able to direct bill to your particular insurance provider. If direct billing is not provided, you will be provided with a receipt that you can submit for reimbursement from your insurance provider.

Please send an email to info@splendourpsychological.com to inquire about direct billing.

Please note: no psychologist or mental health professional can direct bill these companies: CINUP, Cowan Insurance Group, and Sun Life.

Please note that charges for late cancellations and missed appointments often cannot be submitted for health insurance reimbursement.

Clients without 100% coverage for their direct billed service will need to pay the balance outstanding at the time of service.

Car Accidents

If you are in an accident, check with your car insurance provider about accident benefits. For example, after an assessment from a physician or physiotherapist, you may be entitled to $1000.00 in counselling services, to be used within a certain period (e.g. 90 days). After this amount (e.g. $1000.00 limit) has been reached, you will need to use your personal extended health benefits (e.g. Alberta Blue Cross benefits), or pay out of pocket if you do not have benefits.
